Valentine’s Day is a great excuse to play around with bold eye colors and daring makeup looks you might not ordinarily try if you’re a warm-toned neutral gal like me or you don’t have anywhere to wear them to! Now, being that vday is national pink and red day, that doesn’t mean 1. You can’t add purples or dark smokey colors for date night or your Galentine’s Day events, or 2. You have to show festivity or get fancied up, at all! There are no rules to makeup and that’s my favorite thing!! But if you’re anything like me, you use every holiday as an excuse to “glam up”- I’m totally making that a verb lololol- and be the most festive! In today’s post, I’m giving you day-time and evening options for makeup on the day of love. For both of these looks I’m using my matte and poreless skin foundation routine found on the blog here, and the Jaclyn Hill Eyeshadow palette from one of my top favorite makeup brands, Morphe Brushes.

Day-time look:
I tested the waters with soft pink, rose golds and burgundy shadows. Some of you may be thinking, “there’s no way I can wear red undertone shadows, I’ll look like I have the flu!!” Fear not my fabulous friends… the trick is to blend! This palette is such a makeup case staple for the sole reason that it is high- quality, hand crafted, & safely made. When it comes to Jaclyn Hill, you know she won’t put her name on something that isn’t perfect or worth it. #Same. Amidst the red-toned shadows, I mixed a few neutral browns to blend and soften the pigments so the end result is subtle and just pink enough, especially if you have a day at the office.
- Using the M504 & shade MFEO, buff back and forth in windshield wiper motions as a transition shade in the crease. This will allow for all of the shades to tie together in the end and help with blending in steps to come.
- Deepening the crease with shade pukey using again the M504, right over top, again blending back and forth with a light hand.
- Place shade in the outer corner with the M441 patting the shade SBN and using circular motions to blend, keeping the shadow low in the crease.
- Use the M167 to pack the sparkle on the lid with shade Sissy. *****Major tip: spray the brush (once shadow is picked up) with the Morphe setting spray to add extra tackiness for longer wear on the lid & to enhance the pigmentation of the shadow*****
- Then I took shade Jacz and packed it in the corner of my outer crease for extra dimension with the M433.
- Taking the M504 and MFEO again, blend the edges of the lid into the crease shadows for a cohesive look and to ensure there are no harsh lines anywhere.
- Using the M432 and shade Chip, stamp directly under the lower lashes until about the pupil of the eye.
- Using shade Pooter and the E18, do sweeping motions from corner to corner of the eye to blend out that “stamped” line and to add dimension to the eye so the upper and lower lids are tied together.
- The Brow bone highlight is shade Enlight using a tapping motion with my finger and buffing it out with the M504 with whatever is left on the brush to make it more subtle.

Evening/ Date night look:
The same thing applies here with smokey eyes…. I promise you won’t look like you’ve been punched in the eye if you blend and use a very LIGHT hand when adding shadows. The trick is to start light then build color. Also, this look works for all eye shapes, yes even hooded eyes! Create your own eye crease if your eyes don’t have enough space in your natural one! Don’t be afraid of dark shadows, you got this!! Remember, makeup has no rules!!!! My evening eye technique is very similar to that of my day time, but with more shades, a few more brushes and layering of colors!
- Using the M504 & shade MFEO, buff back and forth in windshield wiper and circular motions as a transition shade in the crease. This will allow for all of the shades to tie together in the end and help with blending in steps to come.
- Deepening the crease with shade Butter using again the M504, right over top, again blending back and forth with a light hand.
- Place shade Roxanne in the outer corner with the M441 patting the shade and using circular motions to blend, keeping the shadow low in the crease.
- Just a tad bit lower in the crease and carrying it onto the lid, I used shade Mocha with the M505 and blended with circular motions.
- Next I took shade Royalty and tapped it back and forth onto my lid and right on top of Mocha for the smoked purple effect with the M433.
- I used the M167 to pack the nude sparkle on the inner corner of the lid with shade Beam and blending it into Royalty.
- Lastly, I took shade Soda Pop and very gently buffed it into a “V” shape with the M505 (this is the step where you start with little to no product and build the color up).
- Taking the M504 and the shade MFEO, blend the edges of the lid into the crease shadows for a cohesive look and to remove any harsh lines *Blending is like an eraser!*
- The inner corner and brow bone highlight is shade Beam using a tapping motion with my finger and buffing it out with the M504 with whatever shade is left on the brush to make it more subtle.
